Kurt Cobain

There are plenty of speculations why Kurt Cobain killed himself. Whatever his reasons for pulling the trigger may be everybody had their own version of the story. I don’t care about that, and neither should you, we were all sad when we heard the news, but in respect to Cobain we just mourned his death. We didn’t go around fighting the police like 5000 people in front of his mansion did 2 nights after his death. One of the reasons why Cobain was depressed in the last two years was the wrong interpretation of his lyrics, words and deeds.

Kurt Cobain never wanted to raise a new generation, that wasn’t his intent. He was scared of their success and he became even more scared when he saw how some people interpreted their songs. After “Smells Like Teen Spirit” everything went wrong according to him. Nobody listened, people had their own idea what his songs were about and they stopped listening to the words, they stopped looking for the meaning, they thought they got it all figured out.
After that the media pronounced him and Nirvana as the spokesman of the Generation X. One more thing he didn’t handle quite well. He never wanted to be a spokesman, a messiah as some called him. Well, whether he wanted that or not he did leave a mark on a few generations, his music was something different that the youth back then, and even now can relate to.

What got him down the most were the publications of his songs with free interpretations. Polly, that he wrote as an anti-rape song was even used as background music in a real gang-rape. That started killing him from the inside. He even went that far that on the Incesticide album he wrote: "If any of you don't like gays or women or blacks, please leave us the fuck alone."
That didn’t have any effect. I know how I would of felt if I kept saying something and everybody else kept hearing my words in a different way and then stating that they understand and they will follow. It’s like doing something in your name that you never wanted someone to do in the first place. I’m sad to say that all that has happened after the release of the “Nevermind” album influenced Cobain greatly, and so he left for us his remarkable words to remember. I can’t imagine what his songs would be like if nobody got the second album wrong, would they be as grand as they were and as they are now?

Everything we do in life has consequences; I guess if Cobain knew what his lyrics would do to people and to him, maybe he would have given up before his hand even touched a pen. Maybe he would have tried in spite of all the things. What I know is that those who understood Nirvana and Kurt Cobain know that he wished for peace and equality, I am glad to say that finally after a long time everybody seems to understand that.

There is always more to learn and more to understand about Nirvana, and of course there are things that can help us remember.

I completely agree. I have always loved Nirvana. I was an outcast and misunderstood as a teenager. At that time I felt I could relate to the songs. I always believed he was too good and too sensitive for this kind of world. Which lead him to drugs and eventually lead to his suicide.
